Bonjour and welcome to MeaghanCarey.com!

Is there a place you can recall that brings out the best in you, inspires you, makes you feel alive? For me, it is Paris. When I think of what has been a major force behind shaping and defining my taste, it always seems to come back to the city of lights.

I really took to the Parisian way of life when I studied abroad there back in 2010. Earlier this summer, I was able to return since my student abroad program back to my favorite city in the world. I fell in love with the city all over again. The French just have that je n'ais se quoi compared to say, New Yorkers. They are masters of food, fashion and seem to really enjoy the simple pleasures in daily life, or as the French say "joie de vivre."

I wanted to dedicate my first blog post to be about the Parisian style and way of life. My time in Paris was transformative and inspirational moment in my life that became the foundation of my style and taste.

Look Book + Tips: Fall 2017

Fall has finally arrived in NYC! I can finally wear gray pieces of clothing without having to worry about visible pit stains from the hot stagnant air of the subway.

Speaking of the color gray, the French love to wear neutral colors. Think beyond the color black: camel/caramel brown, navy blue, burgundy and cream. What is so great about these neutral colors is that it really acts as a canvas for your look. A pop of color here and there will tie the look together.

1) Think sleek silhouette, not sloppy.

-French women know how to dress for their figure. Looking put together while looking effortless comes second nature to the Parisienne femmes. Little tweaks, like tucking your shirt in to a great pair of jeans or skirt or getting a great blazer tailored, can make all the difference to how your body looks in an outfit.

2) Accessorize smartly and strategically. Less is more.

-The French are all about practicality when it comes to dressing oneself. A simple gold necklace, with gold rings or my personal favorite a printed scarf, will give your look the pep it needs without it being too overwhelming.

3) Revert to the classics. They will never go out of style.

-Invest in timeless and versatile pieces--jeans, a denim skirt, a blazer, a white t-shirt, a trench coat, a great linen sundress. French women are all about the ease of dressing, the less fussy the better. A simple pair of jeans with a striped t-shirt, belt and flats will always look good no matter what type of personal touch you style it with.

4) When in doubt, put on some black!

-Universally flattering, versatile, chic and slimming--what is not to love? For me, black is my power color. It makes me feel bold and strong and confident with a bit of mystery.
